A brief overview

Once considered 'floating palaces', ocean liners represented a new era of global travel. Passengers could travel in luxury so grand many felt as though they were not even on a ship at all, on liners that represent the pinnacle of beauty and mastery of engineering. Yet as the new age of aviation grew, the need for these ocean liners began to dwindle, as ocean travel became a means of holidaying in itself, not a means of travel. Soon, ocean liners fell out of favour, instead replaced by aeroplanes and cruise ships. Today, only the Queen Mary 2 remains as the last true ocean liner.

This blog is dedicated to investigating the history of ocean liners from the 19th and 20th centuries and how the industry changed alongside global travel. As well as this, it will also delve into the histories of each of the great ships from this 'golden age' of sea travel, uncovering the facts, the stories and the myths
